Zach Castro, Anya Cedo and twins Mona and Lisa Sarines headline the JGFP Ranking Series 3 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club starting Saturday.
The 54-hole tournament, organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and presented by the US College Sports Camps and Seascape, is envisioned to provide junior golfers a chance to land college scholarships.
“We want to give our junior golfers visibility in the rankings and give them better chances to get recruited,” said JGFP president Oliver Gan.
Participants play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
Aside from Castro, the other participants in the boys’ division are Geoff Tan, Felix Saludar, Rafael Sagaral, Charles Serdenia, Joaquin De Grano, Joshua del Rosario, Byeoung Hunko, Gunwoong Park and Dam Lee.
Joining Cedo and the Sarines twins in the girls’ bracket are Lia Duque, Alexa Dacanay, Alexa Tan, Eun Jae Kim, Munyeong Jung, Bodam Noh, and Seonghu Bae.
To add spice to the two-day event, a dual meet will also be held between JGFP members and students of the RAND Golf Academy based at Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The top three scorers count for the team in the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
“This is another novel approach that the JGFP has taken to push the growth of our more senior and advanced players,” JGFP director Jun Cedo said.
“We plan to have more dual meets with other foreign academies in the country to take advantage of strong international competition without leaving the country.”
Gan said the field is limited to accommodate the 54-hole tourney spread over two days and simulate a college golf tournament.
“We are planning to hold more ranking events in our calendar in Metro Manila as well as the provinces,” he said.
Coinciding with the tournament is the one-day FMG D-League at Club Intramuros in Manila on Sunday.
Close to 70 players are entered in the 18-hole tournament.
Next week, the JGFP will hold the Pueblo de Oro Championships in Cagayan de Oro where more than a hundred players from the region are expected to take part.
