Quiban closes in on Asian Tour card

Justin Quiban closed with a three-under-par 68 and moved into a good position to clinch an Asian Tour card in the coming season.

The 26-year-old Filipino collected six birdies against three bogeys to finish on 7-under 273 in a temporary tie for 22nd spot at the Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Thailand Saturday.

The top 35 finishers will earn tour cards.

Quiban, who started at the back, birdied the first three holes but made back-to-back bogeys from 17 to reach the turn on 1-under.

He birdied 3 and 4, bogeyed 5 but gained a stroke on 8 to salvage his round.

The final cut was pegged on 3-under with Justin de los Santos making it on the number after a 67.

Jhonnel Ababa bowed out with a 74 and 3-over total.

John Lyras and Jack Thompson shared the lead on 17-under after shooting 66 and 64, respectively.

Back home, Sebastian Lorenzo upended Tonito Payumo, 1-up, in their grueling 36-hole final match for the championship at the Manila Golf Club Saturday.

Miiguel Velasco turned back Mike Ozayta, 3 and 2, to win the Class A title.

In the Class B final, Andrei Ty needed three playoff holes to hold off Jaime Panganiban.

Laurent Lamasuta trounced Francis Ngo, 6 and 5, to bag the Class C crown while John Wee brought home the Class D title at the expense of Edward Tiu, 5 and 4.
