The Emilio Aguinaldo College basketball team is in good hands, former head coach Oliver Bunyi said yesterday.
Bunyi, who has been replaced by Jerson Cabiltes, feels his successor has what it takes to steer the Generals to the top of the National Collegiate Athletic Association owing to his vast experience.
“Coach Jerson is a champion coach. He knows what to do,” Bunyi, who coached EAC for three seasons, told Daily Tribune in a phone conversation.
“Him saying he wants a Final Four appearance in his first year is possible. I believe in him.”
Cabiltes won back-to-back titles in the Maharlika Basketball League (2021 and 2022) with Basilan and Nueva Ecija, respectively.
Since its participation in the NCAA in 2009, EAC has yet to make the Final Four, something Cabiltes is very much capable of doing, stressed Bunyi, when hostilities erupt in Season 99.
In their last campaign, the Generals notched a 3-15 win-loss card for tenth place.
Bunyi also believes his wards, led by Nat Cosejo, Art Cosa and JP Maguliano, have matured and are ready to step up to the plate.
“I think the team will do good in the upcoming season because they (players) have matured,” Bunyi said.
