Converge is taking no chances in building a solid team as it added another big man to boost its frontcourt in the ongoing Governors’ Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
Bradwyn Guinto, a 6-foot-6 slotman, will be joining the FiberXers following the expiration of his contract with Rain or Shine.
Elasto Painters head of basketball operations Caloy Garcia confirmed the development to Daily Tribune, saying that no trade is necessary as they already agreed to release the forward after his contract with them had lapsed.
“His contract ended,” Garcia said.
“No trade is needed because we will already exceed the allowed players in our roster.”
Sensing Guinto would be released, the FiberXers immediately picked him up to serve as a backup big man for Abu Tratter, Justin Arana, Jeo Ambohot and Barkley Ebona.
Converge will be Guinto’s fifth PBA squad after playing for KIA, NLEX, NorthPort and Rain or Shine.
Interestingly, Aldin Ayo served as one of the assistant coaches of playing coach Manny Pacquiao at KIA when Guinto was still there.
Now, Ayo is already a head coach and led Converge to a 2-0 start in the season-ending conference.
In the Commissioner’s Cup, the FiberXers made it to the playoffs, but they are still looking to improve their roster by letting go of players like Allyn Bulanadi, RK Ilagan, Mike DiGregorio and Tyrus Hill before acquiring Ebona, Jerrick Balanza and future picks.
