Chery Tiggo survived a first set scare before cruising to a 27-25, 25-19, 25-22, win over Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Mylene Paat, the reigning Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player, had plenty of help on offense with Shaya Adorador posting a game-high 16 points with 15 coming off attacks for the Crossovers. Paat finished with 15 markers.
The duo combined for 28 of Chery Tiggo’s 57 attack points. EJ Laure scored 13 markers and five excellent receptions while Roselle Baliton had nine points.
Crossover head coach Aaron Velez praised his wards’ mental toughness in the tight opening set.
“It’s really more about our composure. From the start, during our preparation we told ourselves that our teamwork will actually bear force,” Velez, who steered Chery Tiggo to the 2021 Open Conference crown, said.
Laure put the Crossovers on top, 24-23, in the first set before Ces Molina forced a deuce. Paat scored on a combination play but Molina saved a set point after a successful block touch challenge.
Cza Carandang put Chery Tiggo ahead, 26-25, on a quick kill before Cignal’s middle Roselyn Doria committed an attack error to surrender the set.
From there the Crossovers took control of the match to complete the sweep.
Molina dropped 16 points in a lost cause while Riri Meneses got 11 for the Reinforced Conference runner-up HD Spikers.
