Maverick Ahanmisi played like a man possessed, completing two four-point plays and ending up with a career-high 31 points to spearhead Converge’s decisive 98-90 triumph over Blackwater Thursday in the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Philsports Arena.
Ahanmisi’s explosive performance included a prolific 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and scoring 22 points in the third quarter alone that triggered the FiberXers’ breakaway from a tight first half. Converge didn’t look back from there.
It was a big bounce-back victory for the FiberXers, who lost a heartbreaking 116-112 loss to NLEX last time around.
The latest win catapulted Converge to solo third spot with a 6-2 win-loss record while dealing Blackwater its seventh straight loss – and on the brink of officially getting eliminated.
Blackwater remained at the cellar with a 1-8 slate.
“Everything just falling in tonight and I credit my teammates and the coaches for getting me open,” said Ahanmisi. “I wouldn’t get those open shots if they’re not setting those screens for me.”
