Del Mundo leads Junior World qualifiers

Kamille Edriana del Mundo edged Maria Brianna Dizon Macasaet with a par in the first extra hole to win the girls’ 7-8 division of the IMG Junior World Qualifiers at the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite on Sunday.

Del Mundo shot a 63 in the final round to tie Macasaet on 186 after 54 holes.

Macasaet closed with a 66.

Both players, however, along with third placer Venus delos Santos have earned tickets to the IMG Junior World Championships in San Diego, California.

Nine other players also booked spots in the annual competition, led by Stephanie Gan who came from behind to win the girls’ 6-and-under division.

Gan shot a closing 70 to edge overnight leader Soleil Ianne Molde by two strokes.

She finished on 209 while Molde carded a 73 for 211. Joining them in San Diego is Athena Winter Serapio who turned in a 74 for 213.

In the boys’ 7-8, Sooreen Lee, Halo Virgil Pangilinan, and Alonzo Balbuena Retuerto finished in the Top 3 to also gain tickets to the world event.

Lee completed three rounds on 198, seven shots ahead of Pangilinan. Retuerto was third on 209.

Kenzo Gavin Tan dominated the boys’ 6-and-under with Ethan Franco Lago and Zoji Tyro Edoc finishing second and third, respectively.

The three-day tournament was organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
