Carlos Yulo won the gold in the men’s floor exercise in the second leg of the FIG World Cup late Friday night at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar.
Yulo scored 14.833 points to secure his first gold medal in the World Cup and get his first win in the floor exercise in any FIG tournament since winning it all at the 2019 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
Kazuki Minami of Japan settled for the silver with 14.2 points while Great Britain’s Luke Whitehouse got the bronze with 13.966 points.
This was redemption for Yulo, who failed to qualify in the final of the floor exercise in the first leg in Cottbus, Germany late last month.
At press time, the two-time world champion could cap the second leg with at best three gold medals as he is currently competing in the vault and the parallel bars.
Yulo will have to beat Olympic champion Artur Davytan of Armenia for the vault gold.
As for the parallel bars, his biggest hurdle will be Illia Kovtun of Ukraine, who won in the German leg last month.
