Another Filipino fighter will be crowned as world champion on 13 May in Stockton, California.
Vincent “Asero” Astrolabio will be that guy, his chief trainer Nonoy Neri said yesterday from Las Vegas where they have set up camp.
Neri said Australian Jason Moloney, who faces Astrolabio for the vacant World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown, won’t withstand his fighter’s furious fists.
“Moloney’s not going to endure the pain Vincent is going to dish out,” Neri said from Sin City.
“I don’t think the fight is going to go 12 rounds. The fight’s going to be over by the seventh round… or even the fifth round,” Neri, oozing with optimism, declared.
Astrolabio, 26, originally from General Santos City, packs an 18-3 win-loss record with 13 knockouts.
Hailing from Melbourne, Moloney, 32, holds a 25-2 ledger with 19 knockouts and the two losses sustained during world title fights.
But Moloney seems to be a master of Filipino rivals, having beaten all 10 who dared challenge him, including seven who didn’t go the distance.
While most of Moloney’s victims were patsies, he still managed to beat two-time world title challenger Aston Palicte and veteran overseas campaigner Marco Demecillo.
Still, Astrolabio’s camp is unfazed as he likewise holds a couple of wins over world-class opposition.
In his biggest win, Astrolabio knocked down Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux before scoring a points win last year in Dubai.
Late last year, Astrolabio stopped Russian Nikolai Potapov in Las Vegas.
“I am all set and ready mentally and physically,” said Astrolabio as he bids to join Melvin Jerusalem and Marlon Tapales as the country’s reigning world champs.
