PHNOM PENH — Matthew Hermosa, Kira Ellis, Erica Burgos and Inaki Lorbes picked up the Philippines seventh gold medal after winning the mixed team relay Saturday in Aquathlon in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at Kep Town Beach in Kep.
The Filipino quartet clocked in one hour and 9:56 minutes to cap off the country’s aquathlon campaign this year.
Indonesia came in second with a time of 1:11:27 thanks to Aloysius Mardian, Aryandra Mauludin, Renata Adiyta and Dea Putri with Vietnam’s Dinh Duan Yu, Hoang Ding Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen Nguyen and Van Hai Hoang coming in third place with 1:13:29 hours.
Earlier, Kim Remolino snagged the silver medal in the men’s aquathlon after clocking in 15:07 minutes with Raven Alcoseba placing fourth in the women’s aquathlon with 17:43 minutes.
Rashif Yaquin took home the gold in the men’s triathlon with a time of 14:28 minutes while Margaret Garabedian of Cambodia dominated the women’s aquathlon with a time of 16:09 minutes.
Earlier, fitness trainer Mark Julius Rodelas captured the gold in the men’s obstacle course at the the Chroy Changvar Convention Center Car Park.
Rodelas, 35, clocked in 25.19 seconds and defeated 2019 SEA Games champion and teammate Kevin Pascua, who finished the course in 26.81 seconds.
“Being a teacher was my mother’s dream for me and then I fulfilled my dream of becoming an athlete. I taught English for almost two years,” said Rodelas, a former track-and-field athlete for Emilio Aguinaldo College.
“I am prepared this time,” added the 2019 bronze medalist whose aunt is SEA Games legend Elma Muros-Posadas.
