Shakey’s Girls Invitational kicks off

The stage is set for the country’s brightest young stars as they assemble to raise the curtains of the inaugural Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League Sunday at the San Andres Gym in Malate, Manila.

University of Santo Tomas throws in the first serve against the Naga College Foundation at 9 a.m. in Pool D action to unwrap the jampacked six-game opener of the GVIL, gathering 16 of the best high school teams across the archipelago to show a glimpse of Philippine volleyball’s future.

Lyceum of the Philippines University — Cavite and King’s Montessori School of QC clash in Pool B at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Pool C duel of Far Eastern U Diliman and St. Clare Caloocan at 12 p.m.

At 2 p.m., UAAP runner-up Adamson tests the mettle of Bacolod Tay Tung High School in Pool B before La Salle Lipa takes on Gracel Christian College Foundation from Taguig in Pool A at 3:30 p.m.

De La Salle Zobel then collides with Emilio Aguinaldo College in Pool D at 5 p.m. for the main game of the GVIL backed by the Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Potato Corner, Peri-Peri and R&B Meil Team with the City of Manila as government cooperation partner.

Reigning UAAP juniors champion National U-Nazareth School and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta are also in Pool A but will not see action until next weekend of the Shakey’s GVIL also supported by Mikasa, Team Rebel Sports, Toby’s Sports, Genius Sports and SM Tickets.

Completing the cast are Antipolo City’s California Academy and Arellano in Pool C.

Championing a vision to give the spotlight to the promising spikers, the GVIL, in partnership with Athletic Events and Sports Management Inc., will broadcast games live and on-demand through all social media platforms courtesy of Plus Network as its official event production partner.

Games will be accessible on Facebook, Youtube and Tiktok of Plus Network as well as on the socials of Shakey’s Pizza Philippines and Shakey’s Super League with CNN Philippines,  Solar Sports and Tap Sports as TV partners. Tickets can be purchased on SM Tickets.

“Content is king. The Shakey’s GVIL will be there, wherever you are. You can watch the exciting games anytime, anywhere,” said ACES chairman Dr. Philip Ella Juico.

“The Shakey’s GVIL will be on multi-platform broadcast similar to the collegiate conference, which broke a lot of barriers in showing Philippine sports,” added Plus Network’s Patricia Bermudez-Hizon.
