The national Esports squad made its presence felt as it clinched the gold medal in the League of Legends: Wild Rift event of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games Sunday in Phnom Penh.
Composed of Nigma Galaxy players in Golden Hart Dajao, Gerald Gianne Gelacio, Chammy Paul Nazarrea, Justine Ritchie Tan and Aaron Mark Bingay, Sibol finished its League of Legends: Wild Rift with a perfect card after beating Singapore and Vietnam in the upper bracket to secure a slot in the finals.
Then, the wards of coach Val Alfonso displayed their fighting form, clobbering the Vietnamese, 3-1, to secure the country’s first gold medal in Esports.
Meanwhile, the country’s representative in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang — Bren Esports — can now focus on the SEA Games after bombing out in the Mobile Legends Professional League Season 11 over the weekend at the SMX Convention Center.
Favored to win the tourney after making a strong run in the regular season, Bren Esports fell prey to Blacklist, 1-3, in the upper bracket before getting the boot from eventual champion ECHO, 1-3.
Still, Bren Esports remains in high spirits as it sets its eyes on the bigger prize, which is the SEA Games title.
Composed of mainstays Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, Kyle “KyleTzy” Sayson, Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, Marco Stephen “Super Marco” Requitano, David “FlapTzy” Canon, ONIC PH’s Nowee “Ryota” Cabailo, and coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro, Sibol will kick off its Mobile Legends SEA Games gold conquest on Friday.
