PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A silver medal finish is now within reach for Gilas Pilipinas women’s team which hammered Thailand, 82-70, in women’s basketball of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Sunday.
The Filipinas dispute the silver with Malaysia on Monday at 11 a.m.
A loss to Indonesia on 12 May deflated the team’s chances but coach Patrick Aquino will set for the silver as a consolation.
“I told them that the reason they came here was to play the game and no matter what the result is, just represent our country well,” Aquino said.
Indonesia swept all its six matches to win the gold medal.
Afril Bernardino led the Philippines with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals before leaving the game midway through the third quarter rebounds after a bad fall.
Four other players produced nine points or more for the Filipinas.
Khate Castillo picked up from where she left off last time scoring 11 points while mainstays Jack Animam and Janine Pontejos contributed 10 each.
Stefanie Berberabe chipped in nine points.
