Bolick brings talent to Japan

Robert Bolick becomes the latest local star to bring his talent to Japan.

Bolick’s agent, Marvin Espiritu, made the confirmation to Daily Tribune, saying that the star playmaker of NorthPort in the Philippine Basketball Association reached a deal with Fukushima Firebonds in the second division of the Japan B. League.

Espiritu said the contract is good for two years.

“It’s a two-year deal with a player option for the second year,” Espiritu said in an online exchange.

Reports about Bolick moving out to play overseas cropped up as early as a few months ago.

In a previous Tribune report, sources said that Bolick was seriously contemplating an offer to play in the T1 League in Taiwan, but negotiations bogged down as the offer was only a short-term deal.

Instead, Bolick returned to the PBA and played in the Governors’ Cup.

This time, Bolick is leaving for good to pursue a career in Japan, where Filipino players like Kai Sotto, Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos and Ray Parks have already established their respective playing careers.

In the season-ending Governors’ Cup this year, Bolick played only seven games where he averaged 21.6 points, including a steady 86 percent shooting from the foul line, while adding 5.4 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.
