Koreans, Thais forge duel

South Korea and Thailand filled up the first four spots in the standings on Wednesday, promising an exciting final-round showdown in the Asia Pacific Junior Amateur Championship at the Palmer course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Two Korean squads are tied on 4-under with one team from Thailand on 3-under. Another Thai pair was on 3-over, the same output as Chinese-Taipei.

The pair of Edison Tabalin and Gabie Rosca was the best-placed Philippine squad on 10-over, good for ninth.

Shinichi Suzuki and Reese Ng, on the other hand, were in a share of 14th on 14-over.

Seo Kyorim and Noon Dong Hyun each shot a 70 as Korea 2 tied its first team made up of Kim Minsol and An Seong Hyeon who carded 72 and 70, respectively.

Thailand 1, made up of individual leader Prim Prachnakorn and Parin Sarasmut, was a stroke behind. Prachnakorn fired a 72 while Sarasmut turned in a 74.

Pimpisa Rubrong sparkled with 69 and Teerawut Boonseeor carded a 76 as Thailand 2 finished 36 holes seven shots off the pace.

Also on 3-over was the Chinese-Taipei pair of Hsu Po-Cheng and Lin Jie-En.

Hsu paced the men’s division on 5-under after a 69 but Lin struggled with a 79.

Tabalin was the country’s top performer on 3-over, good for a share of sixth. He shot a 70 in the second round.

Suzuki was alone in 14th on 9-over following a 74.

In women’s play, Reese Ng slipped to a tie for 11th on 5-over after carding a 75 while Gabie Rosca shared 13th on 7-over after a 74.
