Sharkmob pulled off a shocker when it announced that it will no longer develop Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodhunt.
In a statement, Sharkmob admitted that it failed to reach the number of audience required to sustain its operation so it has no choice but to stop the development of the third-person shooting title.
Bloodhunt is a vampire class-based battle royale released in September 2021.
Although the title drew positive reviews and feedback from fans and popular streamers such as Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, the game never got to pick up the kind of following it needed to allow Sharkmob to continue its development.
“Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development.,” Sharkmob said.
“This has led us to the decision to stop further development of Bloodhunt.”
It was disappointing news to the Bloodhunt playerbase, to say the least, but Sharkmob promised to keep servers open for as long as they can so the community could continue playing the game.
“With that said, Bloodhunt servers will stay up and the game will remain available to play. Our aim is to keep the servers going for as long as we have an active player base and community,” Sharkmob said.
“For those who enjoy the game and want to continue playing, we have worked on some solutions to ensure that the game continues to be interesting. An in-game player voting system will be deployed to regularly unlock new things and keep Bloodhunt fresh.”
As Sharkmob puts Bloodhunt on life support, the company also announced that it will stop selling in-game currency later this year — a usual practice by game developers before shutting down a title for good. JM SIASAT
“We are also looking at turning off real currency purchasing on September 26th. Before this happens, we will implement a way to earn in-game tokens more easily so players can continue to play and unlock cosmetics beyond this date,” Sharkmob stated.
“While we are as sad as you are that Bloodhunt development has now come to an end, please know that this was a difficult decision to make, and we take this experience with us in the development of coming games.”
