Malixi climbs to 5th spot

Rianne Malixi climbed three notches to fifth place after posting a three-under-par 69 in the third round of the Beaumont Emergency Hospital Babe Zaharias Open at the Beaumont Country Club in Texas on Thursday.

The 16-year-old amateur, playing the first leg of a 10-tournament swing overseas, made only one bogey while recording four birdies to move to 7-under for the 72-hole event.

Thai Ou Olankitkunchai continued to dominate the field on 19-under following a 68.

Canadian Mary Parsons and Korean Bi Shin was tied for second on 11-under after a 71 and 70, respectively.

Alone in fourth on 8-under was Korean Yoonhee Kim who shot a 67.

Sunshine Baraquiel, the other Filipina in the field, was in joint 35th on 5-over after carding a 76.

Over in England, Enrique Dimayuga got off to a bad start and finished on six-over-par 76 in the England Amateur stroke play championship, also known as the Brabazon Trophy, at the Sunningdale Golf Club in England on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Fil-Briton, who qualified for the prestigious event by topping qualifying last week, stumbled with two bogeys and two double bogeys in the first nine before coming home with two birdies against two bogeys.

He sits in a tie for 98th, 11 shots behind co-leaders Jean Leon Aeschlimann and Sean Keeling who opened with identical 65s.

At home, Chris John Remata edged Loyd Labrador via playoff to win the men’s title in the Northern Luzon regional championships at Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City.

Remata and Labrador closed with identical 68s to finish 72 holes on 267, one shot ahead of Ediso Tabalin who shot a 63.

In women’s play, Abby Abarcas nipped Kyla Laurel by one shot on 299 after both players returned with similar 76s. Julianna Go placed third on 312 after a 79.
