Laurea Duque recovered from a nightmarish opening nine to salvage a six-over-par 77 and 11th place in the 30th Taiwan Amateur golf championships at the Pei Tou Hua Golf and Country Club in New Taipei City, Taiwan on Thursday.

Inclement weather forced the cancellation of the final round, reducing the tournament to 54 holes.

“It was a really tough week so I’m happy with the way I performed regardless of the score,” said the 18-year-old San Miguel Corp.-sponsored player.

Duque said the swing change made by Thai coach Kris Assawaniporn is bearing fruit.

“I’m starting to feel comfortable again. Hit a lot of good shots this week so my game is heading in the right direction,” she said. “Yes! After months of changes and bad scores, it’s starting to click now.”

Duque, who finished on 16-over 229, had a bad start of five straight bogeys from the second hole but righted the ship coming home.

She is set to go to San Francisco for a two-week vacation before going back to Thailand to resume her training with Assawaniporn, also the mentor of former world No. 1 Atthaya Thitikul.

Duque is preparing to resume her campaign in Vietnam and Malaysia.
