Breanna Labadan secured a trip to this August’s world championships in Spain after placing ninth in the individual all-around finals of the 14th Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Labadan, 16, earned a total of 110.40 points after collecting 26.10 points in hoops, 29.55 in ball, 28.30 points in clubs and 26.45 points in ribbon in the event organized by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.
It was a performance better than the last time for Labadan, who wound up 13th in the same event last year in Pattaya, Thailand.
The gold medal went to Uzbekistan’s Takhmina Ikromova who got 132.20 points while Kazakhstan’s Eizhana Taniyeva (128.350) and Chinese Wang Zilu (121.80) took the silver and bronze, respectively, in the meet sanctioned by the Asian Gymnastics Union.
“Although I could have done better, I am nevertheless happy with the outcome of my performance so I can return to the worlds,” Labadan said.
Dora Vass, the Hungarian coach of Lebadan, was all praises for her ward.
“This is her (Labadan’s) best result in the Asian championships and the best result for your country so I am very happy about her performance because last year she was 13th,” Vass said.
“Breanna beat two South Koreans, a Taiwanese and a Malaysian which shows you how great her performance was,” she added.
“We would like to congratulate Breanna for her top 10 finish in the individual all-around finals, and hopefully she will be able to do better in the ball finals tomorrow,” said GAP president Cynthia Carrion.
Labadan will also vie in the ball apparatus final today as she tries to finish her campaign on a high note.
