Rianne Malixi fired an eagle to highlight a round of three-over-par 75 in the second round of the Mizuho Americas Open in Jersey City, New Jersey on Friday.
The eagle was worth 5 points in the Stableford format as the 16-year-old collected 34 points to boost her total to 65.
She also had two birdies, a double bogey and six bogeys, including three straight from 16.
Gianna Clemente, the top-ranked player in the American Junior Golf Association, was the clubhouse leader with 72 points.
Malixi started with three straight pars before making a birdie and bogey on 4 and 5, respectively. She was stalled by double bogeys on 7 and 9 that sandwiched her second birdie.
She dropped a shot on the par-5 10th hole before delivering that eagle on 13, another par-5. She birdied 15 but closed with back-to-back bogeys.
Malixi sits in a temporary share of ninth place, a huge jump from joint 18th at the start of the round.
Play was suspended due to inclement weather with first-round leader Yana Wilson making a charge, moving just one shot behind Clemente with three holes to go.
If Wilson plays the closing three holes in regulation, she will end up with 77 points.
All 24 AJGA players will be paired with LPGA pros in the final two rounds.
