In the words of ring announcer par excellence Michael Buffer, Filipino challenger Jade Bornea is ready to rumble.
Not only is Bornea physically in razor-sharp form.
‘All day long, my gym is where I spend most of my time.’
Mentally, he is raring to win a world title and exact payback in the process when he battles punching machine Fernando Martinez of Argentina in Minneapolis this 24 June.
“He is ready to go,” declared promoter JC Mananquil from Los Angeles after checking on the condition of the mandatory contender in his Las Vegas training camp.
Martinez, the defending International Boxing Federation super-flyweight titlist, has a big target on his back.
The rugged South American puncher dethrone Jerwin Ancajas and defeated him once more to prove he was not just a one-trick pony.
But Bornea’s team believes Martinez’s next rival has the skill set, strength and conditioning and the right frame of mind needed to win.
Holding an 18-0 card with 12 knockouts, Bornea swears “styles make fights” and coupled with his rigid training routine, the chances of pulling through is rather high.
“All day long, my gym is where I spend most of my time,” Bornea said from Sin City.
On fight night, Bornea will get pointers from Ernel Fontanilla, who in April, steered his stablemate Marlon Tapales to a victory over Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev to become a two-belt champion in San Antonio, Texas.
Bornea and his team are flying to Minneapolis three days before the scheduled 12-rounder at the Armory.
