Alex Eala dumped Alana Smith of the United States, 6-4, 6-4, late Friday to enter the quarterfinal round of the W25 Madrid women’s singles tournament at the Ciudad Raqueta in Spain.
It was the seventh straight win by Eala, the 2022 US Open junior champion, stretching back to her conquest of the W25 Yecla tournament last week.
Eala needed an hour and 44 minutes to repulse the No. 808-rated Smith after whipping another American entry, Jessica Fallia, last Thursday in the Round-of-32.
Now rated No. 266, Eala is using the weekly netfests in Europe to prepare herself for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, from 23 September to 8 October.
Seeded third in the tournament, Eala, a scholar of the Rafael Nadal tennis Academy in Mallorca, Spain, is her third straight US rival, Makenna Jones.
Jones, seeded fifth, brought down compatriot Dalayna Hewitt, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, in a separate Round-of16 match.
The Yecla crown was Eala’s third pro title after similar wins in W15 Manacor and W25 Chiang Rai.
