Filipino-American guard Vanessa de Jesus announced her commitment to play for the Gilas Women’s team for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Sydney, Australia from 26 June to 2 July.
The incoming senior guard of Duke University will add firepower to the Gilas squad as she will add depth to the roster that already has the likes of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, and Ella Fajardo.
The 21-year-old cager is excited to don the colors of her parents, who are both Filipino, in the Asia Cup.
“Two of the most important things in my life are family and basketball,” De Jesus said in a press conference.
“Having an opportunity to represent both at a national level is what I am excited about and I am looking forward to growing as a leader and as a player by competing in this global stage.”
De Jesus averaged 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 32 games with the Blue Devils last season with a career-high 17 points against Richmond last 4 December in their 100-49 win.
