Jerry Yee returns to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, as he was tapped to call the shots for University of the East women’s volleyball team.
The 49-year-old mentor was hired by the school last Wednesday two weeks after he was released by Adamson University.
Yee steered the Lady Falcons back into the Final Four of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament after a nine-year absence and finished third overall behind a 10-4 win-loss record.
The concurrent College of Saint Benilde mentor will replace Ronwald Dimaculangan while Karl Santos will be the new head coach of the Junior Warriors in UAAP boys’ basketball.
Jared Lao, son of sports patron Frank Lao, is the team manager for both squads.
This is Yee’s third time coaching in the UAAP, previously coaching the University of the Philippines and Adamson.
The Lady Warriors finished Season 85 with a dismal 1-13 win-loss record and Lao admitted he wants to create a championship-contending team under Yee.
“It is a privilege to have coach Jerry Yee as our head coach. Coach Jerry’s reputation and experience in the field of volleyball are well-known,” Lao said.
“With his extensive knowledge and expertise, there is no doubt that his leadership will steer the team in a new direction.”
UE hopes to get back into the Final Four under Yee’s guidance after 17 years backed by a core led by KC Cepada, Janine Lana and Riza Nogales.
