Kai Sotto and the Orlando Magic are set to play five matches in the National Basketball Association Summer League tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from 7 to 17 July.
The Magic will kick off their Summer League campaign against the Detroit Pistons on 8 July before facing the Indiana Pacers on 10 July.
On 12 July, Orlando will face the New York Knicks and then play against the Portland Trail Blazers on 13 July.
The Magic’s fifth match has yet to be decided.
Sotto has been called up to play in the Summer League in Orlando despite having a workout camp with the Magic this year.
He will have a chance to play with Anthony Black and Jett Howard, who were taken by the Magic with the sixth and 11th selection in the NBA Draft last Friday, as well as veterans Markelle Fultz, Wendell Carter, Goga Bitadze and Moritz Wagner and Bol Bol.
Sotto, 21, will also get an opportunity to test his mettle against this year’s batch of rookies, led by the No. 1 pick 7-foot-4 Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, Dereck Lively III of the Dallas Mavericks and Noah Clowney of the Phoenix Suns.
The Summer League will be a proving ground for Sotto as he aims to be the first full-blooded Filipino to play in the NBA.
In a statement, Sotto’s agent Tony Ronzone said the job’s not done yet for the 7-foot-2 player.
“Very excited for Kai to get the opportunity to show his skill set in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League with Orlando Magic. His game continues to improve against elite competition,” Ronzone said.
“The journey continues for Kai Sotto under the Philippine flag.”
Sotto will be the second Filipino to play in the NBA Summer League after Ray Parks played for Dallas in 2015.
