F2 Logistics head coach Regine Diego firmly believes that Ivy Lacsina has the potential of becoming the next big open spiker in local volleyball.
Diego lauded Lacsina for fully embracing her new role in the wing spot after switching from her usual middle blocker position in the Cargo Movers’ sweeping victory over newcomer Farm Fresh yesterday in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The 6-foot-1 gunner proved her versatility with a scintillating performance to lead F2 Logistics to a 25-22, 25-20, 25-23, victory in Pool B.
Stepping up on offense, the National University product fired a game-high 13 points including a 12-of-40 spiking clip.
“From the first time (she) played in that position I know she still has doubts because she’s not used to that position,” Diego said of her ward.
“But I know she has the potential to be one of the best outside hitters in the Philippines and I know she still has a lot to learn and hopefully in the future, she will be one of the best.”
‘From the first time (she) played in that position I know she still has doubts because she’s not used to that position.’
Playing as an open spiker is nothing new to Lacsina, though.
In fact, Diego saw the potential of the 23-year-old as a winger back in the season-opening All-Filipino Conference.
Lacsina was fielded in a relief role for the then-injured starting open spiker Myla Pablo when the Cargo Movers beat Army in four sets where she finished with nine points.
However, Lacsina admitted that the transition wasn’t easy.
“It’s not that easy but with the help of my Ates and coaches, I fully embraced the position given by the coach,” Lacsina said.
She was also grateful for Diego’s trust.
“Last night when I messaged coach (Regine) she told me that she trusts me. That’s a big factor in why I played the way I played today,” she said.
After a great outing, Lacsina has secured her place in the rotation at the wing spot. “I want her to play outside hitter for the whole conference,” Diego said.
