University of Perpetual Help System Dalta asserted its might as its men’s and women’s teams ruled the Philippine University Volleyball League over the weekend at the Home of the Altas Gym in Las Piñas City.
The Altas successfully defended their title after beating De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22, in the finals of the men’s division.
JC Enarciso emerged as Most Valuable Player and Best Setter while National Collegiate Athletic Association MVP Louie Ramirez clinched the 1st Best Open Spiker following a brilliant display of offensive prowess in the title match.
Meanwhile, Altas head coach Sammy Acaylar was named Coach of the Year.
In the women’s division, the Lady Altas also flaunted their prowess as they dethroned Mapua University, 25-20, 25-19, 29-27, in their championship duel.
Rookie Shaila Omipon was named as Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Outside Spiker while NCAA MVP Rhose Dapol copped the 2nd Best Outside Spiker plum.
Lady Altas mentor Sandy Rieta clinched the Coach of the Year award to underscore Perpetual’s all-out domination in this tourney that attracted the best universities around the country.
Also bringing home individual honors for Perpetual were Jhasmine Sapin (Best Setter), Marian Andal (Best Libero), Winnie Bedaña (1st Middle Blocker), and Klint Mateo (Best Opposite Spiker).
The Perpetual spikers’ domination came at the heels of the Altas’ impressive run in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup recently.
The Altas advanced to the semifinals before bowing to University Athletic Association of the Philippines powerhouse University of the Philippines in the semifinals.
