Powerhouse Bren Esports will now be called AP Bren after it was formally acquired by Aces Pro Corp last Monday.
Bren Esports chief operating officer Leo “Jab” Escutin said they have to find a new management in order to boost the team, which ruled the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines Season 6 and the M2 Mobile Legends World Championship.
“It is no secret that we have been running into some issues with our current management,” Escutin said in a statement.
“Given the resources that we were getting, we had to find a way to consistently support our athletes.”
Bren Esports was previously owned by entrepreneur Bernard “Bren Chong, who was allegedly involved in drug smuggling. The Court of Appeals overturned the charges against the ex-Bren Esports boss last May.
According to Aces Pro Corp boss Jean Alphonse “AJ” Ponce, who is a provincial board member of the first District Province of Cagayan, the acquisition of Bren Esports is meant to take the Esports company to new heights.
“The rebrand enables the team to move forward from the organizational challenges of 2023 and perform significantly better through the infusion of more resources for recruitment and player development,” Ponce said.
“The Bren brand is well-loved and it has proven itself in multiple leagues. While there is no shortage of raw talent in its roster, my hope is that our leadership can help propel them to go ever upward.”
Escutin said with the experience of the new management team in Esports, there is no doubt that they can continue their winning tradition.
“I made the decision that we had to find new management to do so. AJ and his experience with Esports is what we needed. The transition was very smooth because he understood what we needed,” Escutin said.
“Our goals are the same, provide support to showcase our athletes and we hope to do that together moving forward.”
