Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag hopes to assemble a professional team for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 2 which is set to be officially released in the summer of 2023 in the United States.

The 100 Thieves chief executive officer, however, is wary about making a splash in the beloved FPS (first-person shooter) title, at least on its launch, given the perilous landscape of Esports in recent times.

“I want to be in Counter-Strike one day, again. It is just the economy, man,” Nadeshot explained in the 100 Thieves podcast.

“We have wanted 100 Thieves for a very long time and our business actually looks very healthy right now, but we definitely have to be very stringent and very realistic of what we are going to spend.”

“This is the thing, coming into next year, I do not know what any of our rosters would look like. I just do not know. We will make the decisions when the time comes but we just have to be smarter on how we spend. It is a long-term play about how we invest in Esports.”

Popular Twitch streamer Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang recently made waves in the Esports world after making a bold statement that even the biggest Esports organizations in the world do not make money after creating his professional Valorant team Disguised earlier this year.

According to the streamer, getting a sponsor alone has proved difficult as many of the ongoing brands in Esports are merely finishing their contracts because none of them made a significant return.

“We are going to take as many shots as we can, but certainly we want to be around for the next hundred years,” Nadeshot stressed.

“There are going to be years where we have to lay off the gas pedal and sort of weigh out the macro trends of sponsor interests and how well our business continues to grow.”
