Cray enters 400 hurdles semifinal

The Philippines is currently seeing action in three final matches as of press time.

Six-time Southeast Asian Games champion Eric Cray booked a slot in the semifinal of the men’s 400-meter hurdles Friday in the Asian Athletics Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

Cray, 34, clocked in 50.39 seconds in the heats as he moved onto the next round and took a step closer to getting a second gold medal in the Asian Championships.

The last time Cray won it all in the Asian tilt was in the 2017 edition in Bhubaneswar, India.

Meanwhile, Sarah Dequinan is currently in seventh place in the women’s heptathlon with 874 points after competing in the 100m hurdles, high jump and shot put.

The Philippines is currently seeing action in three final matches as of press time.

William Morrison III is in the men’s shot put while John Cabang is vying in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Joida Gagnao will be attempting as well to medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with sprinter Kristina Knott possibly vying for a medal if she makes the cut in the women’s 100m event and gets into the final.

This Saturday will see Knott vie in the women’s 200m with Robyn Brown participating in the 400m hurdles.

Bernalyn Bejoy is also slated to compete in the 800m event with Dequinan participating in three more events: 800m, long jump and javelin throw of the heptathlon.

The final of the men’s long jump will also commence today with Janry Ubas aiming for a medal along with Cray, who will compete in the 400m hurdles.

The Philippines is also set to participate in the mixed 4x400m relay in which the team will pick from the likes of Brown, Umajesty Williams, Frederick Ramirez, Jessel Lumapas, Michael Carlo del Prado and Maureen Schrijvers.
