New national records were set by the Philippine athletics team on the fourth day of the Asian Athletics Championships late Saturday night at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand.

Sarah Dequinan reset the national women’s heptathlon record after tallying 5446 points after finishing fifth, eclipsing the previous record of 5381 points she got in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam last year.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Frederick Ramirez, Maureen Schrijvers, Umajesty Williams and Carlo del Prado posted a new national record in the mixed 4×400-meter relay by clocking three minutes and 22.53 seconds for seventh place.

The previous mixed 4x400m relay was set at the 32nd SEA Games last May when Williams, Ramirez, Del Prado, and Robyn Brown, who earlier won the women’s 400m hurdles gold medal, clocked in 3:23.69 minutes.

After Brown captured the 400m hurdles gold, the Philippines stands to snatch the pole vault gold with world No. 3 EJ Obiena competing at press time.

Sonny Wagdos will also vie in the final of the men’s 5000m final with Kristina Knott trying her luck in the women’s 200m final.

Williams, Ramirez, Del Prado and Sequita will also try make it to the podium as they compete in the men’s 4x400m relay.
