Jack Animam continues to draw interest, making her one of the most sought-after basketball players from the Philippines.
A reliable Daily Tribune source yesterday claimed that Chinese and Australian clubs are wooing the 6-foot-5 Animam, whose stellar plays in the local collegiate circuit and the national squad brought her to countries like Taipei, Serbia and France.
In fact, a Chinese squad is determined to land her services as it dangles a handsome compensation package in the next four months.
Animam is regarded as one of the country’s best international players.
After a stellar career in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, the 24-year-old Animam played for Shih Hsin University in Taipei before packing her bags in Europe to don the colors of ZKK Radnicki Kragujevac in Serbia, and the Toulouse Metropole Basket and the USO Mondeville Basket in France.
She went home to help the Nationals come up with a strong performance in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup recently.
The source said Animam is poised to accept the offer but will only fly to China right after representing the country in the William Jones Cup in August and the 19th Asian Games in September.
“It’s a good deal, in fact,” said the source, speaking on condition of anonymity for lack of authority from Animam and Gilas Pilipinas Women team.
“And the good thing is, it won’t have any conflict with her national team duties.”
The source added that after her Chinese stint, the three-time SEA gold medalist could join an Australian club, which also put a hefty compensation package on the table.
“She has another offer to play in Australia, but her agent wants to explore options in Europe,” the source said.
