Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Janry Ubas ruled the long jump event of the Triveneto Meeting on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in Trieste, Italy.
Ubas did 7.82 meters in dominating the tournament that lured a total of 14 participants.
The 29-year-old is racking up points to get into the top 36 of the World Athletics rankings to enable him to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest from 19 to 27 August.
Cuba’s Lester Alcid Lescay Gay came in a close second place with 7.71m while Thapelo Manaiwa of Botswana placed third with 7.54m.
Tristan James of the Commonwealth of Dominica came in fourth with 7.50m while Nino Celec of Slovenia wound up fifth with 7.36m.
The Philippines Athletics Track and Field Association lauded Ubas’ latest achievement as he aims to join EJ Obiena of pole vault and hurdler Robyn Brown in Budapest.
