SOCIAL MEDIA

Southeast Asian Games medalist Jarod Hatch set a new national swimming record after clocking 52.87 seconds in the men’s 100m butterfly event of the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan last Friday.

The Filipino-American tanker, however, failed to make it to the final round after only placing 32nd overall in the 76-man pack.

Hatch, 25, bested his previous mark of 52.91 seconds, which he achieved back at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia where he captured the bronze medal.

Aside from the bronze in the 100m butterfly, Hatch was also a part of the 4x100m mixed relay team that won the silver while also adding another bronze in the 50m butterfly event.

SEA Games gold medalist Xiandi Chua almost broke her national record in the women’s 200m backstroke after clocking in two minutes and 13.80 seconds, 60 milliseconds short of the record of 2:13.20 minutes as she placed 23rd in the event.
