Two-time Philippine Basketball Association champion Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, one of the finest shooters the league has ever produced, has been tapped as the new commissioner of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.

Cabahug will succeed Cris Bautista.

A former Most Valuable Player in the PBA All-Star Game, Cabahug will take over as commissioner in this promising league down south, which  starts a two-leg series in the Visayas and Mindanao late this year.

The Visayas Leg will be held from October to November while the  Mindanao leg will be unveiled from November to December.

Known as “The Silencer” during his PBA playing career, Cabahug also became a successful coach where he turned the University of the Visayas Lancers in becoming a dynasty in the CESAFI (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation , Inc) and led the team to nine straight championships, including victories against the June Mar Fajardo-led University of Cebu.

Among the best products of Cabahug who made their marks in the PBA were Greg Slaughter and JR Quinahan, while others also made names in the amateur ranks like Gayford Rodriguez, Neil Raneses and Armi Mepana.

Cabahug also coached Quinahan, Rodriguez, Mark Ababanon and Morsie Akad  in representing the Adidas Street Ball champion that won the championship in Shanghai, China in 2002.

As new commissioner of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Cabahug wants to strengthen the development of homegrown players in the Visayas and Mindanao.

“We want to educate players, especially in the grassroots level in the Visayas and Mindanao. We hope to develop more homegrown players, which will represent each province competing here and hopefully, they’ll be given more exposure,” added Cabahug.
