What better way to showcase a golf course than through its clubhouse. Some say it’s the heart of the golf and country club. Some say it’s the face.
In the case of the Valley Golf and Country Club, that popular spot on your right when you’re driving up Antipolo, the clubhouse may well have been its face.
That’s why it’s undergoing a major facelift — if not an entire reconstruction — in the coming weeks.
This marks the first time in decades that the clubhouse will have an upgrade of this scale although minor revisions have been done over the years.
The North and South courses themselves have undergone improvements already.
“It (clubhouse) is a 60-year-old structure and it’s about time to make one that would conform to present building code,” VGCC president Chino Raymundo said.
The club, designed by Australian Jas H. Scotts, was organized in 1958 but only opened for play in 1961. South was first to be constructed before North was added in 1989.
Now to update the clubhouse, Gabriel Formoso & Partners, the original designer, has been tapped for this project. It would take around 10 months to a year to finish.
Initially, Raymundo said they wanted to retrofit the current clubhouse. But since the fiscal condition of the club is okay, its healthiest fiscal position ever according to the official, the Board of Directors decided to practically build a new one.
Raymundo said: “We will have a golf and country club facility, complete with an air-conditioned restaurant (which the club did not have for the longest time); the Founders Hall A&B will be progressed to a 550-pax ballroom that can be subdivided into smaller function rooms; “a sports bar; and an al fresco view deck overlooking the golf course that could also be used as additional dining area.”
They are also planning to build a sports club with basketball and tennis courts and a swimming pool.
“The new clubhouse will not just cater to the golfers but for their families as well. Our goal is to make Valley Golf to be a true golf and country club hub,” Raymundo added.
