Filipino golf hotshot Rianne Malixi toiled with a one-over-par 73 and clung to joint 40th going into Friday’s final round of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Nova Scotia.
The 16-year-old is just trying to polish her skills in time for next week’s US Women’s Amateurs.
But for the second straight day, she encountered rough spots following bogeys on Nos. 4 and 18 and double bogey on the 13th. That negated her birdie efforts on the second, sixth and 15th.
Still, that was an improvement compared to her 79 in Wednesday’s second round in the 109th staging of the meet.
The Filipino, who is now ranked 75th in the world, now has a three-day total of eight-over par 224 at the Ashburn Golf and Country Club.
Miles ahead of Malixi was Brooke Rivers of Canada who will enter the final round with a two-shot edge following a similar 73.
At 207, Rivers is 19-under-par in the first 54 holes.
Chasing her is compatriot Lauren Kim who fired a 73 for 209, while an American trio is two shots further.
Tied for third at 211 are Sadie Engelmann who shot a 71, Phoebe Brisker who hit a 69, and Maisie Filler who fired a 73.
Malixi is hoping to figure prominently in the Los Angeles meet slated for 7-13 August in a hope to break into the World Top 50.
