Toyota’s EV Yaris crosses town

Toyota , the world’s largest car manufacturer, officialy launched the highly anticipated ASEAN Yaris Cross in the Philippines, on Friday introducing a new member in the brand’s stable of electrified vehicles.

The model, specifically built for the demands of motorists in the bustling Southeast Asian region, was unveiled via grand launch at Amphitheater in Taguig.

AMIDST fog machine vapor, Toyota Motor Philippines unveiled the new Yaris Cross HEV to the Filipino public.

The Yaris Cross, based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), is much better suited to our market compared to its European and Japanese counterparts.

As such, the platform is much different from those versions and makes effective use of the Toyota and Daihatsu partnership.

Leveraging Toyota’s extensive experience in technology and production expertise with Daihatsu’s compact car experience, the Yaris Cross promises to blend the practicality of a hatchback with the sporty aesthetics and elevated ride of an SUV.

Under the hood, the Yaris Cross runs on a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, with the 2NR-VE petrol version powering the G CVT and V CVT variants, while the much-touted 1.5 S HEV CVT variant gets the 2NR-VEX petrol-hybrid powerplant.

The 2NR-VEX petrol-hybrid pushes out a total of 109 hp and 121 Nm of torque. Toyota’s inclusion of a hybrid variant in the lineup, showcases the brand’s dedication to a greener and more sustainable future.

The combination of these powertrains ensures a smooth and responsive ride, a balance of power and fuel efficiency, and an overall driving experience that is expected to redefine the standard for compact SUVs.

In terms of technology and safety features, the Yaris Cross is equipped with a state-of-the-art infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

ASIDE from a wide variety of Toyota Safety Sense features, the Yaris Cross S HEV CVT comes with an EV mode.

Additionally, it comes packed with Toyota’s advanced safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” which includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam providing peace of mind for both the driver and passengers on board. For driving convenience, the Yaris Cross S HEV CVT and V CVT variants offer Adaptive Cruise Control as standard.

Toyota Motor Philippines president Atsuhiro Okamoto graced the event, saying that Toyota hopes to bring the electrified lifestyle even closer to more Filipinos.

“In Toyota, we believe in a multiple pathway approach to achieve carbon neutrality. One of the ways we are empowering you, our customers, to help build a sustainable future is through electrified vehicles,” Okamoto said.

“The way to maximize the environmental benefits of electrified vehicles is through widespread adoption. That is why we offer the widest range of Hybrid Electric Vehicles or HEVs in the market,” he added.

The All-New Yaris Cross expands the easy and practical HEV choices that Toyota offers to its customers. It also provides a best-value package that combines a stunning, modern design with advanced vehicle features, and life-enhancing technologies perfect for today’s drivers who pursue their various passions.

The vehicle joins the rest of Toyota’s electrified offerings, such as the Corolla Hybrid, the Corolla Cross Hybrid, the Camry Hybrid, the RAV4 Hybrid, and the new Zenix Hybrid. The Yaris Cross G CVT is available for P1,199,000, while the upgraded V CVT variant goes for P1,306,000. The Yaris Cross S HEV variant goes for P1,598,000.

The introduction of the Yaris Cross in the Philippines reflects Toyota’s commitment to constantly innovate and adapt to the changing tastes and demands of the local market.

With their motto “Leave No One Behind,” Toyota aims to bring electrified mobility to all. Additionally, the Yaris Cross furthers the brand’s footprint in the increasingly competitive compact SUV segment, which has seen a surge in popularity among Filipino motorists due to its versatility and adaptability to city driving conditions.
