A brace from Patrick Grogg in the dying minutes of the match powered Club de Futbol Manila to a 3-1 win over the Philippine Air Force in the 2023 Copa Paulino Alcantara at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday evening.
CF Manila has now won its first three games and is now on top of Group A with nine points.
Tied at 1-1, Grogg scored the much-needed goal in the 88th minute before rifling in a right-foot volley in the 93rd minute.
The match began with a ninth-minute conversion from Antonio Albon Jr. before Mohammed Almohjili scored from a penalty kick in the 35th minute.
“We really pushed through our plans. There’s still signs of immaturity in their game but at least their efforts were rewarded,” CF Manila coach Frank Muescan said.
In the earlier match, Andre Gonzales’ lone goal in the 21st minute was enough to give Pilipinas Dragons FC the 1-0 win over Manila Digger FC.
The Dragons is currently in second place in Group C with its first win of the tournament while Manila Digger absorbed its second straight loss.
