What was that they say about success having many fathers? Well, six golf courses obviously didn’t want to be late bandwagoner just in case someone among hundreds of junior golfers rises to fame.
Royale Tagaytay, Mimosa Plus, Caliraya Springs, Intramuros Golf, Riviera Sports, and Eagle Ridge have agreed to partner with the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines in staging this year’s Inter-School Championships slated to run from October to December.
Some of them even offered discounts for the JGFP which is expecting at least 200 participants from different schools.
“This is the biggest project for the season by JGFP,” said its president Oliver Gan.
He said plans are afoot to have regional championships which will culminate in a national-level competition.
“The idea is to discover talent from the very beginning and help nurture that talent for world-class competitions,” Gan added.
In fact, several tournaments have been scheduled to serve as tune-up events for the Inter-Schools including the Summer-Ender Championship at Intramuros Golf held last weekend.
Royal Tagaytay Inter-School Warm-Up tournament is slated 20 August. South Luzon Caliraya Open it set for 2 to 3 September. And Mimosa Junior Open will be held 8 to 10 September.
Just recently, Mimosa and Xavier School conducted parent orientation for varsity students in preparation for the JGFP Inter-School.
The grassroots program has been revived last year following a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
Xavier School San Juan and Immaculate Conception Academy Green Hills reigned across most divisions.
The team of Kenzo Tan, Kenji Yamada, Jesus Yambao, Matteo Yazon and Scott Dee combined for 289 points, besting for the Lower School top plum Homeschool Global (255) and ICA (248).
But the two schools will be facing a tough challenge this year from several emerging contenders.
In 2019 before the coronavirus struck, La Salle Zobel and British School Manila ruled all divisions, as the former dominated the junior high and senior high team divisions, while the latter won titles in the middle and lower schools.
Participants will be categorized into Lower School for K1 to Grade 3; Middle School for Grades 4-6, Junior High for Grades 7-9, and Senior High for Grades 10-12.
