Three Philippines Football League clubs undergo proving ground battling the best clubs in Asia in the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup.
Defending champion Kaya FC-Iloilo, Dynamic Cebu FC and Stallion Laguna FC have been stored to their respective groups and will be going toe-to-toe with other teams in the continent.
In the AFC Champions League, Kaya is sorted in Group G with Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos, Shandong Taishan FC of China and Incheon United FC of South Korea.
Kaya is looking to get a win in the ACL after losing all six matches in the group stages of the 2021 edition.
The ACL group stages will begin as early as 18 September with the dates and venues of the fixtures still being sorted as of writing.
Entering the Round of 16 would mean Kaya will have to top its
group or be one of the top three
second-place teams in the tournament.
In the AFC Cup, Cebu is in Group F with Australia’s Macarthur FC, Shan United of Myanmar and Phnom Penh Crown FC of Cambodia.
Stallion, on the other hand, is bundled in Group G in the AFC Cup with Terrengganu FC of Malaysia, Indonesia’s Bali United and Australian Club Central Coast Mariners.
The group stages of the AFC Cup will begin on 18 September as well with the schedule of the clubs yet to be determined.
For the AFC Cup, the top team of each group and the best second-place team of the West Asia Zone and the ASEAN Zone will advance to the Zonal semifinals.
The draw was conducted Thursday at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
