Unbeaten Far Eastern University held its miscues in check in a clinical crushing of Enderun College, 25-11, 25-10, 25-16, to keep a firm hold of the top spot in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The Lady Tamaraws finally limited their unforced errors to string up their third win in as many games with a 67-minute whipping of the Lady Titans, who came crashing back to earth hard after coming off an upset of San Sebastian College-Recoletos in their previous outing.
In the other pairing, University of the East battered the hapless Lady Stags to submission, 25-14, 25-19, 25-14, to remain tied with FEU at the top spot.
The Lady Warriors rained down 41 attack points as San Sebastian showed little resistance in the 68-minute drubbing.
Casiey Dongallo punched in 17 of her 18 points from kills while Jelai Gajero had 16 markers and six digs as UE hiked its win-loss record to 3-0.
FEU head coach Manolo Refugia lauded his wards for executing their gameplan well but he was particularly happy with how his team took care of minimizing errors after committing 39 in a four sets win over University of Perpetual Help System DALTA last Wednesday.
“I’m happy we’re able to meet our objective for this game to lessen our errors and we got a good result. Everyone did a great job,” Refugia said of his wards who only had 20 miscues this time.
Rookie Kiesha Bedonia was able to bounce back on offense after an anemic showing the last time out, scoring a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Tamaraws.
The hitter hammered in 11 kills, landed two aces and had a kill block for FEU.
“I’m happy that I was able to get over the hump. My last game was kind of a let-down so I’m just happy I was able to bounce back,” Bedonia said after improving from a five-point showing in two sets of action against the Lady Altas.
Faida Bakanke added 10 points as the only other Lady Tamaraw in double digits while Chenie Tagaod and Mitzi Panangin scored seven and five markers, respectively.
Jazzlyn Ellarina came off the bench on the third set to chip five markers and skipper Nikka Medina got four playing only in the fourth frame for FEU, which outgunned Enderun on spikes, 39-12.
