Garen Diagan will attempt to score a major upset today when he challenges unbeaten champion Oscar Collazo for the World Boxing Organization minimumweight crown at the Roberto Clemente Stadium in Puerto Rico.
During the official weighin, Collazo stepped on the scales at 104.8 lbs while Diagan tipped in at 104.
Arriving in Puerto Rico roughly ten days ago, Diagan is also on a mission to avenge the losses absorbed by two other Filipinos before him: Victorio Saludar and Melvin Jerusalem.
If victorious, Diagan will join Marlon Tapales, the two-belt super-bantamweight titlist, as the Philippines’ only reigning world champions.
Assisting Diagan in his bold bid is Sean Gibbons, who facilitated the boxer’s title shot.
