Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go expressed satisfaction over the Philippines’ hosting of the ongoing FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Go, who has been actively involved in supporting the event as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, shared his thoughts on the country’s hosting, performance, and the future of basketball in the Philippines.
“Speaking about the hosting, it has been so far, so good,” Go said.
He emphasized the positive impact of the event on tourism and investment in the country, saying that “we were able to showcase the beauty of our country and its tourist spots.”
“I’m sure some delegates are already going to our tourist spots. We can also encourage our tourists and investors to invest here.”
The lawmaker also highlighted the successful games held at various venues including the Philippine Arena, the Mall of Asia Arena, and the Araneta Coliseum.
“We had a great outcome of our hosting at the Philippine Arena as well as the MOA and Araneta. We also drew support from our countrymen.”
The World Cup has been a significant event for the Philippines, not just as a participant but also as the host nation.
The opening match against the Dominican Republic set a new FIBA Basketball World Cup indoor attendance record, with 38,115 fans filling the Philippine Arena.
