The 18-man national squad scooped a total of 16 medals and set a lot of personal records in the 45th Southeast Asia Age Group Championship in Jakarta recently.
Diver Joseph Reynaldo, 16, bannered the streak as he won a bronze medal in the boys’ 16-18 platform event for the first time in years.
Jennuel Booh de Leon and Arabella Nadeen Taguinota also led the charge for the Filipinos as they dominating their respective events on the second day of the three-day competition that attracted top junior swimmers from eight countries.
De Leon, 16, claimed the gold in the boys’ 16-18 class 50m butterfly clocking 25.40 seconds over Bernie Elle Yang Lee of Malaysia (25.49 seconds) and Thanaseat Thanonthisitsakul of Thailand (25.72 seconds).
The 14-year-old Taguinota was the fastest in the girls’ 14-15 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:13.40 to beat Thuy Hien Nguyen of Vietnam (1:14.07) and Natthakita Leekitchakorn of Thailand (1:14.50).
