University of Santo Tomas begins its redemption bid in a clash against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to open the second season of the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Preseason Championship today at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Tigresses and Lady Altas battle at 3 p.m. in Pool C after the opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
Squaring off in the main game at 5 p.m. are San Beda University and Arellano University.
UST is back with a vengeance after coming up short in the battle for third last year.
The Tigresses salvaged some measure of pride in the inaugural National Invitationals, winning the bronze medal at the expense of the Lady Altas.
“We had a good campaign in the Invitationals. Hopefully, it will be a good avenue for us to improve and prepare for the big league,” UST assistant coach Lerma Giron said.
The España-based squad is parading the same roster led by young stars Angeline Poyos and Detdet Pepito.
“We have a lot to work on. We still have room for improvement,” Giron added.
Perpetual, for its part, is determined to give UST a run for its money with National Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player Mary Rhose Dapol at the helm.
On the other hand, National Collegiate Athletic Association rivals Lady Chiefs and Lady Red Spikers clash in Pool B.
