Russel Reyes dominated the national finals of the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup Philippines to earn the rights to represent the Philippines in the TGR GT CUP Asia Finals slated 24 September in Kuala Lumpur.
Joining him are Matthew Ang and Luis Moreno who also figured prominently in the national finals held 6 September.
Reyes displayed steadfast performance in all the races. Impressively, he clinched the top spot in two out of the three rounds. He also saw action in last year’s Asian Finals finishing sixth overall.
Following closely was Sporting Class debutant Ang who earned a second place in the Promotional Class last year.
Moreno, the TGR GT Cup Philippines 2021 champion, rounded out the top three. This season marks Moreno’s triumphant return to Team Philippines, and he’s set to make his debut appearance in the Asia Finals.
The finals was a significant event in the TGR GT Cup PH 2023 season, wherein Sporting Class participants contested for a coveted spot on Team Philippines for the upcoming TGR GT Cup 2023 Asia Finals.
What added thrill to the competition was the trio of races, each presenting a distinct track and a unique vehicle. Racers began their quest on Trial Mountain, commandeering the GR 86. The next stop was the Sardegna — Rally Cross, where contenders navigated the treacherous turns in the GR Yaris RZ.
TMP’s vice president for marketing services, Elvin Luciano, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this year’s roster.
“This year marks a notable first, as we’ll be dispatching players abroad for the Asia Finals. Observing the commendable performances of Russel, Matthew, and Luis in both local and national stages, we harbor strong hopes that they’ll uphold the honor of Team Philippines,” Luciano said.
