HANGZHOU, China — Eumir Marcial delivered a masterful performance as he booked a convincing win over Dalai Ganzorig of Mongolia in the Round of 16 of the men’s 80-kilogram event of the 19th Asian Games here at the Hangzhou Gymnasium.

Marcial, 27, was impressive yet cautious right from the opening bell en route to a 5-0 domination of his Mongolian foe.

It was such an impressive performance for Marcial, who had made some key adjustments after moving back to the amateurs and climbing to the light heavyweight class after the organizers scratched the middleweight, which is his fighting weight category.

“I tried to be very careful. I know I was leading from the start,” said Marcial, who had to brush off the Mongolian’s desperate tactics of headbutting and stepping on his foot before booking the win.

“He is naturally bigger and heavier than me. This is not my fighting weight so I have to be very careful not to get hurt. As you know, the battle is still far from over.”
