Mazda Philippines recently took the wraps off its latest addition to their lineup — the all-new Mazda CX-90.
Steven Tan, president and CEO of Mazda Philippines, marked the occasion by stating: “The first-ever Mazda CX-90 is the pinnacle of Mazda Premium.
“It is our most advanced model ever with exceptional levels of sophistication that can be enjoyed not just by the driver, but by the whole family. It offers powerful and responsive performance, alluring design, and intuitive technology.”
Built on Mazda’s Large Product Platform, the CX-90 comes as the second offering to utilize this expansive architecture. The vehicle employs a front-engine, rear-wheel-bias all-wheel-drive layout, enhancing Mazda’s signature driving performance.
One of its noteworthy features is Kinematic Posture Control, designed to suppress body roll during cornering, thereby delivering enhanced grip and stability for all passengers.
In pursuit of ultimate driving comfort and safety, engineers have optimized the rigidity across the vehicle body and have intricately calibrated the seats and suspension.
At the heart of the CX-90 lies an all-new e-Skyactiv-G 3.3-liter inline-6 turbo engine, capable of generating 284 PS between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm and 450 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm.
This engine is mated to a 48-volt Hybrid System and an integrated electric motor positioned between the engine and transmission. This setup offers smooth acceleration from a standstill and can run solely on electric power, enhancing fuel efficiency.
The CX-90 features an eight-speed automatic transmission, specifically engineered for the electrified powertrain. This multi-speed gearbox, notably devoid of a torque converter, achieves a balance of smooth and direct acceleration while improving overall drivetrain efficiency.
Drivers can also take advantage of the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-DRIVE) system, which offers four switchable drive modes — Normal, Sport, Off-Road and Towing — to adapt to various driving conditions.
On the aesthetic front, the CX-90 does not disappoint. Its large platform dimensions, about 5 meters in length by almost 2 meters wide, serve as an expansive canvas for designers.
The body of the vehicle showcases sleek curves, carefully placed chrome accents, and available 21-inch diamond-cut wheels.
One of the highlight colors available for the CX-90 is Mazda’s Artisan Red Premium, a color developed explicitly for this model that offers a deep, wine-like hue.
The attention to design carries into the cabin, where traditional Japanese aesthetics inspire a luxurious and comfortable atmosphere across all three rows. Multiple materials such as Nappa leather and Leganu suede inserts enhance the overall experience.
The vehicle also boasts commendable interior dimensions, offering seating configurations of either eight adults in its base variant or six adults in its top-of-the-line variant.
In terms of cargo space, the CX-90 offers a usable 257-liter capacity behind the second and third rows. Folding down the seats increases this space significantly.
Loading and unloading are facilitated by a carefully designed tailgate and cargo floor area. A hands-free power tailgate further adds to the convenience.
For tech-savvy drivers and passengers, the CX-90 is outfitted with a trio of high-definition displays and the latest Mazda Connect system, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Additional features include a 12-speaker Bose sound system, tri-zone climate control and ambient lighting.
Safety remains a cornerstone for Mazda, and the CX-90 is no exception. It comes packed with a suite of i-Activsense safety features, including a variety of assistance systems to enhance peace of mind.
“This is more than Mazda’s new flagship SUV; it is an expression of exceptional craftsmanship and human-centric technologies,” Tan concluded.
The Mazda CX-90 comes in seven colors and two variants, with prices starting at P3,680,000 for the base model, and P3,780,000 for the top-of-the-line version, inclusive of a five-year Free Service Plan.
