It is high-time for the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League to come up with an annual Rookie Draft to ensure that games are more competitive.
By doing this, it would allow teams that are being consistently being beaten black and blue to rebuild their roster.
Also, a dispersal draft should also be created regularly to allow new squads to form a more competitive lineup.
It will be up to the league to determine what concessions would be given to squads attempting to shore up their respective frontlines.
While games in the MPBL are not being broadcast like the Philippine Basketball Association has been doing, its games are always packed and the audience heavily involved and invested in their teams.
In fact, there are reports that three more teams are eyeing for inclusion in the already massive MPBL cast.
Still, the entry of new teams also means additional costs, something that will affect MPBL founder and eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, who has been subsidizing the operations of some of the struggling teams.
But Pacquiao, for all his generosity, can’t do it forever.
To address this problem, the MPBL has to come up with a policy-making body that will handle the matter so the league becomes sustainable.
The MPBL can easily look back and learn the lessons from the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball League and Liga Pilipinas.
No doubt, MPBL games are thrilling snd exciting but the league has to calm the nerves of team owners.
It has to go the extra mile to guarantee that the league is here to stay.
